5 Tips To Find A Quality Web Designer

It is very important to find a good web designer. As a business owner, there is no way that you will be able to teach yourself how to design an effective website. You can however use any site builder on the market, but this will most often leave you with a very unprofessional image. Since you are hiring a professional, does this mean that you don’t have to know anything about the web design process? The answer is no, not if you want to ensure that your website will be a professional representation of your company and that it will be built in such a way that later search engine optimization will be possible.

Below are 5 essential tips to help you find a web designer that will deliver a quality product that will keep your business image professional.

#1 No Entirely Flash Sites

If a web designer suggests building your site entirely in flash, walk away. Web sites made entirely in flash are a horrible idea and will do little to position you as a credible company. Besides the image concerns, flash sites cannot be opened by every user. These sites also will seriously harm any search engine optimization (the science of getting your website found on Google or other search engines) that you may try in the future.

Please keep in mind that flash is not all bad. Flash elements do work well as part of HTML coded sites, as they add appealing elements and style. Remember to run from a web designer that suggests this entirely flash route.

#2 No Flash Navigation

Flash navigation makes it very hard for search engines to fully access your site and crawl each page. Therefore, your web designer should stay away from flash or image navigations. If necessary, make sure that they place text links to each page at the bottom of your site.

#3 Proper Use of Page Titles, Meta Descriptions, and Meta Tags

Make sure that your designer utilizes Page Titles and Meta Descriptions. Each page should have a distinctive title that lets both Google and a potential client clearly understand the content of that page. Keep it clear, direct and try to utilize your keyword phrases. The same should be done for the meta descriptions of each page.

#4 Content is Key

If your web designer tries to talk you into a site with very little content, be prepared to argue. It is true that your site should look appealing, but your site should always provide viewers with relevant and well written content. This content should be rich in the keywords that you’ve chosen. First and foremost, your site content should be written for the end user, and secondly it should be crafted for the search engines.

#5 Own your 0wn Domain Name

Make sure that you own your own domain name and know who is hosting your site. If you lose track of your designer down the line, renewing your hosting and domain could be a major problem if you’re not sure where it’s hosted.

Copywriting For The Web

copywriting for the web
are you a freelance copywriter? do you have advice for me?

I am an English grad who would like to be her own boss. I am 100% confident in my writing and editing skills, but am unsure how to break into the copywriting world. I’ve tried doing cold-calls (hi, i’m a copywriter who helps companies create brochures, web-content and other copy.would you be interested in receiving some information on my services?), and doing mass-mailouts, but my responses have been low and i’m getting discouraged. what do i do?

how did you get started?
am i being unrealistic?
what is your biggest mistake?
what is your best advice?
should i targert mid-sized companies, or go for big ones? (i don’t have a very great book yet).
how do you approach big companies?

i’m learning as i go, but i am getting really discouraged. i can’t do my current job forever!

any help would be greatly appreciated.

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Web Design Tools

Happy New Year to all of you! Sorry for the time that I’ve not been posting any tutorials due to the holidays. I took a long vacation starting Christmas till New Year’s. Anyway, I’m now here and will continue posting helpful tutorials for all of you guys. I do hope you get something in this one.

Here are some essential tools that you need to know before you star Web Designing. Well there are still a lot of them but we just need the most important right now.

Web page design on HTML
A markup language used to structure text and multimedia documents and to set up hypertext links between documents, used extensively on the World Wide Web. If you want to be a web designer you have to learn this tool. Because learning how to use HTML properly will make you a better web designer! Sure you can create a web page using Dreamweaver or other WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors.

But creating HTML pages using Dreamweaver is kind-of like delivering a speech through a translator: Although you might know exactly what you want to communicate, you can’t always control the end result… why? Because your thoughts and ideas have been translated by someone else (in this case, Dreamweaver)! In the ideal situation we would translate our thoughts ourselves… but to do so, we need to learn the language (in our case, HTML and CSS)!

Website Hosting
When you’re ready to publish your website online, you have to get a Web Hosting. They store your data and show your website to surfers. There are many reliable hosts who will host your website for a fixed amount each month/year. This is useful if you’re prepared to fork out money for your minuscule little project on such extras as “shopping carts” and scripts which you are never likely to use. Otherwise, get free hosting.

Website Design Using Photoshop
The web design using Photoshop is one of best the way’s of creating the web sites. Web designers have the most effective way of making the web sites promotional, for that designing a web site front page is most important.

Web design templates gives the best possible way of providing the content layout .It tells us the way that how you can get your design to make your website most productive commercially.

Website Design Using HTML Editors
HTML Editors are applications to actually make web pages, to program HTML code. Before you ask, yes, web development is a form of programming. A web page is a piece of software code, written with an editor and displayed (rendered) by a browser.
Web development involves not only writing code, but also visual design and content management.

You’ll find that different HTML editors support different aspects of this workflow. At one extreme you’ll find editors that let you only manually type code, on the other complex development environments that can modify thousands of pages at the click of a button.

Strong Imagination
Of course if you want your designs to be eye-catching, you’ve got to have this important tool. Besides, the tools above don’t really matter if you do not have a strong imagination.

If you are going to do more than what is needed then it may cause a business loss for you. Before designing a web site, a web designer needs to research up on website information and finally apply the knowledge gained.

Some Do’s in Web Site Designing

1. Avoid Multimedia and Plug-Ins:-

Using pointless pug-ins and multimedia is not a very favorable task for every web site. A visitor will not try to download the stuff out up by you as it is a very time consuming task. He/ She may not get the information outright and this can let him/ her to move on to other websites for more relevant content and information.

2. Use Old Version HTML

It is a common fact that most of the visitors do not use the latest versions of soft wares immediately. Therefore, a web designer or a web master may need to use the previous versions of the soft wares.

3. Two Versions Of A Website

A web designer may create two versions of a website: one for the new version browsers and another for the old version browsers. Go ahead only after doing enough research and when you are sure that this will be of use to the business and it will not cause a business loss.

4. Put an email link on the page

Try to give an email link on each page of web site. It provides the quick access.

You should also keep the following things in mind:-

• Include update date and update frequently

• Include contact names and addresses

• Use alternative text along with graphics for non-graphics users

• Add alternative text links for image maps

• Maintain an overall style and cohesiveness

• Include varieties of navigation paths

• Use distinctive titles for pages

• Use short file names

• Use a spell checker

• Provide worthwhile content

• Think through the experience from different points of view

• Test with different computers and speeds

Some Don’ts in Web Site Designing

1. Avoid making a websites that do not tell the users about their operations and business.

2. Websites that do not provide any email address and contact information to correspond are useless.

3. Don’t use horrible, mismatching colors for web pages.

4. Avoid using ugly backgrounds.

6. Be conscious about spelling and grammatical errors.

Now, it is the key duty of any web designer to keep the above thumbnails always in mind while making a website so that it (website) can serve its purpose.
