Outsourcing your website design

Website design customers in the UK tend to frown upon outsourcing and this is understandable. Almost every large utility company today outsource their back office and customer services are generally handled by non-UK staff abroad. A lack of personal touch, poor communication skills and accents means that these services are not welcomed by customers at large. We do not want to speak to somebody sitting thousands of miles away for services and products. How about your web site design? Would you outsource your web site design work to another country? Although you might be reluctant at first, there might be circumstances under which it could be interesting and even advisable to have your web site design done abroad or outsourced. A local project manager who communicates well, good value for money and excellent web site design support are just some of the key factors that you might consider before outsourcing your web site design.

Although communications technology has greatly improved over the past few years with cheap and quality technology and telecommunications services, you cannot beat talking to a local project manager in the UK when discussing and ordering your web site design. No matter where your web site is developed, you need to be able to pick up the phone and talk to a sales or project manager who, not only understand your language, but also who is familiar with your needs and the local web site design market. Someone looking for a web site is also looking for a friendly service and web site design advice from a professional who is available at local times and who is sensitive to your needs. This is not always easy to achieve when dealing with remote staff sitting in a foreign country with foreign customs and markets, no matter how much training they have received and no matter how good their accents.

If you are dealing with a local professional with whom you can talk to and develop a professional relationship, there is no reason why the actual web site design work cannot be outsourced abroad in the back end. As far as you are concerned, it does not matter where the web site is being developed. Your local web site design project manager will make sure that your web site is designed as per your request and amended to suit your needs. Once you develop this confidence, outsourcing your web site design work can prove to be very rewarding both in terms of value for money and the quality of the web site design.

Indeed, one of the main reasons for outsourcing web site design, or any other services for that matter, is the cost factor. You could get a lot more done for your money through competitive web site design prices. Like it or not, a lot of the web site design skills is actually sitting abroad where, for various reasons, the cost of labour is still reasonable low. If you are concerned about using ‘cheap labour’, rest assured that web designers and highly skilled personnel abroad are not underpaid. Typically, a web site designer abroad working for an outsourcing company will earn at least double the average pay rate of his/her country.

Another key factor is the service level. Web site developers abroad are hungry for work and will generally work odd hours, fast and efficiently to secure jobs and build confidence in their services. They have more to prove than their counterparts in the UK and therefore will generally work much harder on your web site design project.
More than likely, you will require changes to your web site design while it is being developed and even after the commissioning of the web site. The chances are you will have more flexibility on this issue with your web site designers abroad than with local web designers.

So, outsourcing is not a no go area, certainly not in back office web site design. In fact it can be a blessing provided you have an excellent project manager based locally who communicates well with you and his or her back office web site design team.

Copy Writing Tips – How to Write a Quick Yet Compelling Web Copy

If you are in the world of copy writing, your greatest enemy is that thing called writers’ block. Being in the “writer’s block” mode really makes a writer unproductive. An article that could have been written in an hour can take three hours. If this doesn’t happen, a quickly written article turns out to be a sloppily written one.If you are a copy writer, here are some tips on how to quickly write quickly write compelling copies especially when you’re having writer’s block:

* Relax and take a deep breath.

Writer’s block is often caused by something else (other than the topic at hand) bothering you. If you’re having trouble writing a quick article, take time out and take a deep breath. Concentrate on your breathing. Focusing your on your breath exercises your mind to focus. It gives you fresh ideas too.

* Read up on past articles.

Past articles are fertile grounds for ideas on new articles. You can update a past article on a topic you are working on. Or you can spin off a whole article from a paragraph in a previous article. If the topic that you have is something you have not written before, then read up on other people’s articles. Innovate but do not plagiarize.

* Come up with spring boards for your articles like “Things To Do…” or “Things To Avoid…”.

Having a springboard for your content makes it a lot easier to write.

It gives you a clear-cut idea on the direction your content will take, regardless of the subject. If you’re writing something on fancy cars and then have to write something on Forex, writing those articles becomes easy.

For fancy cars, you might want to start your article with the title,” Things To Do Before Buying That Dream Car” or “Things To Avoid When Buying That Dream Car”. For Forex, you can revolve your article around these titles, “Things To Do Before Investing In Forex” or “Things To Avoid In Forex Investments.”

Of course, you can always come up with your own springboards. Be creative. You can write something around “The ABC’s of (subject).”

* Plan your content.

Try not to see your articles piecemeal by piecemeal. Rather, work out a theme for your subject. Say, for example, you are writing a series of articles on Southeast Asian countries, you might want to revolve your articles around each country’s signature dishes, most viable business opportunities, etc.

* Get inside the head of your reader.

Good writers are always writing for a specific audience with very real concerns. If you are stumped and don’t quite know what you can write about on a particular subject, put yourself in the mind of your reader. What topics would be most interesting to him or her? If you’re writing about writing as a profession, you might want to write something about the most profitable markets for genuine writing talent.

The tips mentioned above should show you how to generate great copy even when you feel half-alive with writer’s block.

School Websites Design

graphic design high school internship?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school and I’m looking for a graphic design (maybe print-related) internship around Pasadena, CA. I don’t really have much experience either, but I’m currently taking a graphics class, so it be nice to have an internship related to what I’m learning.
I’ve been searching all over the web, but they’re all for college students. I’ve also been searching on websites like fastweb, but I didn’t get much. And I’ve already tried local places, like museums.
thanks :)

Ask the counselor at your school for ideas. Often businesses will go to the high schools with internships and job offers that you couldn’t find yourself.

If you’re willing not to be paid, you should be able to find something. If you want to be paid, it will be more difficult, the best bet is through your high school. There are quite a few design type businesses (architecture, engineering, graphic arts, designers, etc) in Pasadena.

Good luck!

Are there any other such sites?
well, i am interested more in copy editing, i know about blogging, not my piece of cake, especially since i dont do any writing, just the peopel who work for me who do.

You need to build a web site advertising your company.
1. Buy a domain
2. Setup of a web hosting
3. Create a website
4. Publish your website

For beginners I think yahoo web hosting is the best and easiest use. Yahoo has question and answer section that can solve most problems and direct phone line for additional support.

Learn Basic Web Design

learn basic web design
How do I learn to design a simple webpage?

Hello.

My mom sells handmade jewlery out of her house and is not very computer-literate. I know my way around typical programs (surfing the internet, word, excel, powerpoint, etc) but have no experience in web design. I know her business would be benefitted if she had a webpage.

I would like to help her out by paying for and setting up a basic webpage (ie. company name, contact information, a pdf order form, and a few pictures) but I don’t know where to start.

If anyone could suggest a good web tutorial for basic webpage design – or a good book to read- I would be very appreciative. I don’t expect you to explain the whole process though Yahoo! answers!! But, anything you have to offer would help.

Thanks!!

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a “homepage” which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the “homepage” URL is likely to be “http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber… name” and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., “mydomain.com” which allows you to link any registered domain name to “mask” another website. For example, should you type in “domainname.com”, you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber… name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here’s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: “www.pizzanextdoor.com” which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: “http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzamen… and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!

Good luck!

Design Expert Tips by Specialized Web Design Firm

The World Wide Web is one of the fastest growing marketplaces, with thousands of companies launching their websites daily! So how do you get your website noticed and achieve higher rankings in search engine results? Getting a website designed is not a difficult task, but to follow and stay on top of the latest trends for better net exposure surely needs insight and hard work. Leading web design companies of Los Angeles have presented some tips for website designs. Let us take a quick look at them:

a) It is better to have the folders on your computer organized before you create the web pages. This would make it easier to retrieve pages whenever required. Make a separate folder for any picture or graphics that you want to add to your site.

b) Hire web design companies with good track records and reliable services. Whether your website is simple or complex in nature, a well-reputed company offers the maximum ROI.

c) The size of the graphics should be relatively small and compact. If they are large, then the web page would take a long time to load, which may push the site visitors away from your website. Large graphics can be placed on a separate web page that is linked to your web page. You may also want to indicate that it will take some time to load, so those visitors interested viewing the link will wait while others won’t waste their time.

d) Update the website with fresh content, information, pictures, or whatever is needed to sustain the interests of the visitors. Your website should contain all relevant information about your company and services/products.

e) Narrow text length on a web page is easier to read online. Avoid keeping the text layout wide, where the user has to scroll sideways to read the entire content. This may lead them to ignore your website and loose interest.

f) There are many kinds of browsers and browser settings. Therefore it is better to test your webpage with different browsers. It will give you an idea as to how your website looks on different computers, thus making it easy to create pages that are compatible with a majority of formats.

g) Insert appropriate keywords/phrases in the site content. Also, do not use punctuations in the title. This will help search engine robots locate your site effectively.

h) If you use HTML, then close the tags while using it. It will lead to better web appearance for your site in other browsers as well. If you open a tag and then a tag inside it, the last one opened has to be closed first and the first one to be closed last. Use the blank space appropriately.

i) Excess of everything is bad. Too much white space left on the web page, or over-crowding with extra text or pictures is a complete no-no. Proper placement and use of a web page is critical.

In summary, following these points when building your website will inevitably lead to excellent online results. They are essential for a good web design portfolio.

The article contains some basic, yet important tips for effective web design. Follow them to achieve greater online profits and increased web traffic.

Web Page Design Software

web page design software
What is the best web design software for a novice using a PC?

I have registered a few domain names through godaddy and I would like to design some custom websites that are better than just the plain page with the blue links. Is there software that is good for a beginner and has pretty powerful web tools? Also, what do I have to do on godaddy’s end to have my website displayed on the internet. Do they have a page and/or size limit?

Microsoft’s Front Page is finished. There is no current version. Drewamweaver is the industry standard. However, it is expensive and you are a novice. Use the free, open source package, NVU. It’s development environment is similar to Dreamweaver’s so if you ever feel the need to power up, you will already be comfortable working that way.
