How can I help my 3rd grader’s writing speed and content?

My son’s just began cursive writing this school year. Practice is a too simple an answer. Is there anything else I can try to help him succeed? According to all testing and teacher’s reports my son is on or above grade level in all academic areas. Straight A’s last year and looks like the same this year. (I think the teacher goes easy on him because of his label). He attends a private Catholic school. I’m happy for his accomplishments. Even so, I’m still worried. He was diagnosed with ADHD in Kindergarten. Through behavior modification techniques, logical and natural consequences, low dose meds Adderal XR 30mg, good schools and extra help at home he is doing very well. Progress is great this year. I’m stuck though. Awesome reader, test taker, and math whiz is a painfully slow writer. He doesn’t write letters to friends. Ideas to make writing fun from all!
or any suggestions from people who have studied this disorder and effective techniques? Thanks everybody.

I had the same problem believe it or not fixed it in about one second flat.

I simply sat him down and explained how to write a paragraph to pick some thing he knew about, think of 6 things he knows about it.

Bears,

Bears eat Fruit, Nuts, and berries, Fish, and Roots.
Bears live in the woods. They sleep in the winter, and have their babies in the early spring. Bears have huge claws used for digging.

I couldn’t believe how simple it was. no one had ever told him how. Just to do it.

He hates to write to he doesn’t have good hand writing and says it hurts him to write.It gives him a headache.

Good at all other subjects spelling Math all of it I think boys just have a hard time with detail.

I don’t have a problem with it any more. 3 rd grade
