Writing Web Copy

writing web copy
Is there any need for this? (Web Copywriting Guide)?

Hello,

I am a successful freelance copywriter for the web. I specialize in writing
words that sell online. Over the past two years I have helped many Webpreneurs
and Affiliate / Internet Marketers in creating content for websites, landing pages,
squeeze pages and seo articles that have doubled or even tripled their online
incomes…

I was wondering if it’s worth creating a guide which will entail in depth
steps that I use in my business, which any one can learn and follow
to creating killer web copy that converts and gets Top Placement on
Google…

What do you think? Is there any need for a step-by-step guide to
creating web copy that sells? Thanks for the feedback!

I think I would be interested in something like that. I’m a web developer by education and a consumer electronics expert by trade. www.installheroes.com

What are the rules of good web copy-writing?

I am a decent enough writer but have not written for the internet before but know it is a different discipline. Am interested in the key rules and any web links that may also help me. Thanks

I write for both internet and print publications and I don’t distinguish between the two. An article is an article and they both aim to do the same thing…to impart information clearly. Just be sure to research thoroughly and check and re-check your grammar and punctuation. Your grammar and punctuation in this question are bad…even if you are only writing a question on Yahoo, your grammar should be prefect…this gets you in the habit of practising high standards.

How To Learn From An Online Copywriting Course?

Copywriting is a significant aspect of online marketing. Many of these articles that you can find online are written by copywriters who aims to convince people in buying products, using services, subscribing to a particular idea and many others. Given the number of articles found online, copywriting is now one of the most profitable jobs you can find on the Net.

In other words, copywriters are one of the highest earners in the world. But a copywriting job is not that easy at all. The job’s nature is different from that of other forms of writing. But no matter how complicated the job is, it can be mastered through the help of the copywriting masters, through a good online copywriting course.

Copywriting In A Nutshell

Copywriting is one phase of marketing plan. The subject of the copywriting articles are made known to the public through the use of creative words, powerful facts, and compelling contention. Most often the article subjects are products, businesses, and services, but anything can be the subject of anyone’s writing. The very purpose of online copywriting is to persuade people to patronize products or services, not just inform them about the helpful features of them.

The Complexity of Copywriting Job

Copywriting is difficult, perhaps more difficult than technical writing, because it aims to convince people to believe in what is said and take concrete actions such as buying the products or availing of services. The fact that not all things are needed by people makes copywriting complex in itself.

Hence, the most effective copywriters are those which can create needs out of products that are actually not basic commodities. Besides these, articles must be done carefully to catch the attention and interest of various readers. Tons of articles are not read by people simply because they are not worth reading.

Even if the articles have quality information and content, if they are not optimized in the search engines, they will not reach the readers. There are numerous copywriters on the net now. The competition among them has become tight and so they are compelled to be the best they can to remain on their jobs. You too can become a top earner copywriter if you let yourself be trained in an online copywriting course.

The world of good offered by the course

If you choose to get trained, you will get to know the main difference of copywriting from other forms of writing. The lessons are given step by step so you can pay close attention to every essential of copywriting. This way you will make it a habit to painstakingly craft sentences to make it catchy for the readers.

In order to know an effective write up, you will be taught by example, that is, by letting you read articles which contain the essential in copywriting. Most of all, you are to write various articles for you to see the application of what you studied. When you finish the course, you can build your own copywriting business which can be worth six figure amount a month.

What Copywriting Course To Choose

There are many things to consider when you take a copywriting course. For one, it is best if you avail of an online copywriting course simply because it is not time-consuming and you can definitely choose your convenient time and place to take the lessons. The courses outside the web require you to shell out cash for transportation fees and other stuff.

Take time to find out the lessons delivered by the course to know whether it is comprehensive or not. Most of all, research about your mentors. The best course is the one that is given by the most effective copywriters online. If you consider these things, you will surely land on the best online copywriting course on the web. Not only that, when you master your craft, it will be a six figure copywriting job!

Copy Writing Tips – How to Write a Quick Yet Compelling Web Copy

If you are in the world of copy writing, your greatest enemy is that thing called writers’ block. Being in the “writer’s block” mode really makes a writer unproductive. An article that could have been written in an hour can take three hours. If this doesn’t happen, a quickly written article turns out to be a sloppily written one.If you are a copy writer, here are some tips on how to quickly write quickly write compelling copies especially when you’re having writer’s block:

* Relax and take a deep breath.

Writer’s block is often caused by something else (other than the topic at hand) bothering you. If you’re having trouble writing a quick article, take time out and take a deep breath. Concentrate on your breathing. Focusing your on your breath exercises your mind to focus. It gives you fresh ideas too.

* Read up on past articles.

Past articles are fertile grounds for ideas on new articles. You can update a past article on a topic you are working on. Or you can spin off a whole article from a paragraph in a previous article. If the topic that you have is something you have not written before, then read up on other people’s articles. Innovate but do not plagiarize.

* Come up with spring boards for your articles like “Things To Do…” or “Things To Avoid…”.

Having a springboard for your content makes it a lot easier to write.

It gives you a clear-cut idea on the direction your content will take, regardless of the subject. If you’re writing something on fancy cars and then have to write something on Forex, writing those articles becomes easy.

For fancy cars, you might want to start your article with the title,” Things To Do Before Buying That Dream Car” or “Things To Avoid When Buying That Dream Car”. For Forex, you can revolve your article around these titles, “Things To Do Before Investing In Forex” or “Things To Avoid In Forex Investments.”

Of course, you can always come up with your own springboards. Be creative. You can write something around “The ABC’s of (subject).”

* Plan your content.

Try not to see your articles piecemeal by piecemeal. Rather, work out a theme for your subject. Say, for example, you are writing a series of articles on Southeast Asian countries, you might want to revolve your articles around each country’s signature dishes, most viable business opportunities, etc.

* Get inside the head of your reader.

Good writers are always writing for a specific audience with very real concerns. If you are stumped and don’t quite know what you can write about on a particular subject, put yourself in the mind of your reader. What topics would be most interesting to him or her? If you’re writing about writing as a profession, you might want to write something about the most profitable markets for genuine writing talent.

The tips mentioned above should show you how to generate great copy even when you feel half-alive with writer’s block.

I need to find copy writer clients on the internet?

Hi.I have 6-7 people who work as copywriters for me, and i dont have registered company/organisation.I’m 19 years old and I’m looking for clients who would pay me to do copywriting work for them through the internet. How do i find such clients?I tried sites like elance.com. Are there any other such sites?
well, i am interested more in copy editing, i know about blogging, not my piece of cake, especially since i dont do any writing, just the peopel who work for me who do.

You need to build a web site advertising your company.
1. Buy a domain
2. Setup of a web hosting
3. Create a website
4. Publish your website

For beginners I think yahoo web hosting is the best and easiest use. Yahoo has question and answer section that can solve most problems and direct phone line for additional support.

Seo Content Writing

seo content writing
which is more important in SEO?

Please help me figure out the ranking order of importance to the overall success of marketing your website in terms of achieving within one year (assuming you worked on these things on a daily basis):

-Submission of your website to directories
-Adwords for your website
-Creating blogs that link to your website
-Exchanging Links with other relevant websites
-Updating your content
-Having an outsider write an article about your website
-Creating keyword and alt tags for your site

other

Here’s the answers that you requested:

1. Submission of your website to directories. You only need to publish your website on the three major search engines: #1 Google, #2 Yahoo, and #3 MSN.com.

2. Adwords for your website. Adwords is a waste of money and is no substitute for proper SEO!

3. Creating blogs that link to your website. Unfortunately, blogs and forums are too general and do not generate specific enough keywords for raising one’s website rankings.

4. Exchanging links with other relevant website. Again, “exchanging links with other relevant website” is not to be done and if reported to Google, especially; your website will be definitely reexamined and may result in lowered PageRank. Such exchanges are looked upon as a form of spamdexing.

5. Updating your content. Is appropriate, especially the removal of dead links.

6. Having an outsider write an article about your website. Only if the writer has the article on a major news, publication website!

7. Creating keyword and alt tags for your site. Creating “generic” keywords and alt tags is more appropriate.

Other:

The most important success strategy for SEO is:

1. Host your website on a web server that’s a primary unix URL, i.e., http:, not on a www.com; use the homepage option of AT&T/SBC Global which is often an http: rather than their commercial www. hostside.

2. Select host providers which have side agreements with major search engines, such as AT&T/SBC Global with Yahoo.com; AOL.com business hosting with Google.com search directory;, etc. These arrangements often selectively elevate rankings of major search providers on major search directories.

3. Be the first website to claim generic keywords which is localized by city, state, country in the metatag.

4. Create a
metatag of at least 41 words to form complete sentences which best describe your goods and services;

5. Create a <keywords> metatags of no more than 15 entries in plural and compound variations separated by a space and comma.

6. Do not create obstacles to search robots/spiders during the index process, such as the use of frames, use of pure flash webpages, use of stylized texts within .gifs rather than as hard HTML text.

The following article will prove helpful to you in streamlining your SEO metatags in order to attract more Net traffic by higher search engine placement.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, “Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or
DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 60 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually up to 41 words to form a complete paragraph which
best describes one’s goods and services. It is not merely a list.

And the very last category – “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very “generic” search query
“sandwiches downtown los angeles,” taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to “LA” and of course, leave
out the parentheses (“). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where “Nazos.net”
is ranked. It’s on the FIRST FRONT PAGE [ranked #5]!
Again, Nazos.net’s high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google’s publication guidelines.

Good luck!

Advertising Copy

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 at 5:01 PM

Leave your comment

Advertising copy?

Just what is advertising copy?
What does a copy writer actually do?

Copy writers are the folks who come up with the verbiage in the ads we see everywhere….in the newspaper for example. There is a special skill set the writer needs to possess that isn’t found in everyone, and the application of this knowledge will be critical in the success or failure of your campaign.

Many direct mail marketing pieces are quite brief, so the copywriter needs first and foremost a great command and knowledge of persuasive speech and emotional triggers. They need to be obsessed with the process that gets people to open envelopes or e-mails.

They need to be inventive–not simply regurgitate every ad they’ve ever seen–and be able to utilize time-tested techniques crafted onto your particular piece to make a unique proposition. They need to be willing to push the edges a bit, while still staying true to your desires.

Make sure your copywriter is keen on testing, and willing to listen to your input. Ask to see samples and the results of successful campaigns. Look for originality and quality, and be wary of people who are unwilling or unable to produce these for you. Get references if at all possible, and talk to them. A good direct mail copywriter will likely be asking you more questions than you ask during an interview.

Make sure you agree on basics such as turnaround time, revisions, and all the financial terms. You want great direct mail marketing copy, not surprises.

A good direct mail marketing copywriter is worth their weight in gold, and then some! Once you find someone who works well with you, hang onto them; and, if you’re smart, start grooming their replacement, if possible in house. Any suggestiions.

You mean copy*right* ? You automatically get the copyright of a website — as anything else you may write or create (e.g. photo, music) — no need to apply nor claim copyright… Though most people add the “Copyright (C) 2009-2010 John N. Doe” or whatever.

In order to loose the copyright, you must explicitly give it from you — e.g. by writing you release the content into the public domain or that the content is licensed under something like Creative Commons.

The exception is if you do this at work — or as part of something you do for your employer. Then — depending on your contract — it will probably be your employer who owns the copyright. This is where it may be confusing, as your contract may make your “free-time” actually company-time. If that is the case — or it may be confusion — get your employer to sign a release for whatever.

That you have the copyright, doesn’t mean that someone can’t try to steal your content and/or design… and unless you can afford to sue them, it’s little you then can do. You may make it difficult to download the content, but that’ll probably make the site difficult to use — and prevent fair usage (and thus only annoying your users). If something can be viewed/read, then it can be copied too.

Remember if you “borrow” design or scripts — or maybe just the “idea” of a design/script — you may be the one breaking someone elses copyright. Remember that even if you found something — text, photo, video, logo — on the web, doesn’t mean you can freely use it… it’s probably copyrighted.

Also, putting together several video-clips to one, or photoshoping an image to look drawn or painted (or whatever); does *not* qualify as an independent work. Unless you have the permission of the copyright holder of the original, you’re breaking someone elses copyright — you’re not getting the copyright of the derived work.

« previous entries

Next Page »

Blogroll

Employee Move and Orientation Join this network if relocating to or within great Britain – helps reduce the stress.

Our Blog Categories

Select Category Copywriting Good Web Design marketing Social Media

Visit our Blog Archives

 Select Month January 2011 (1) July 2010 (2) June 2010 (7) May 2010 (6) April 2010 (5) March 2010 (8) February 2010 (10) January 2010 (6) December 2009 (8) November 2009 (3) October 2009 (9) September 2009 (7) August 2009 (8) July 2009 (7) June 2009 (7) May 2009 (2) April 2009 (12) March 2009 (9) February 2009 (6) January 2009 (6) December 2008 (9) November 2008 (9) October 2008 (7) September 2008 (7) August 2008 (12) July 2008 (8) June 2008 (6) May 2008 (6)

Feedback from our Social Media Workshops

I found the session stimulating, constructive and informative and full of good ideas – I also need to act on what I learnt.

Robert Stuart - Director, Data Design & Development Ltd

Greatly enjoyed the seminar - informative, well delivered and good value.

Vic Chuntz - CEO, Aston Taylor Recruitment

Very good session – I learnt a lot.
