3 Places You Better Be Listed For Web Design

Web design is competitive as you probably know, as a very basic starting point you need to be listed on a few websites to give yourself the basic credibility required as web designer, check out the following.

First off is the UK Web Design association, not only is this a well respected place for web designers.. but they are also rather high ranking for the search term web design! Membership is free and the aim is to promote standards across the field of web design and development and it is currently the largest internet association in Europe!

The second place you need to list your web design business is on directory sites! sites such as free index are great for promoting your business and gaining that much needed exposure. They will help your ranking and can get you some free business leads, particularly effective for sourcing local business leads.

Finally, Gumtree (or craiglist), regardless of what you think, as a small or medium web design company, you are not too good for gumtree or craiglist! Online free ads are great way of obtaining local business leads and the fact is they are very popular with most of the online community and have great rankings in search engines… not everybody can be at the top of the search term for web design and the fact is, these listing sites probably have a better chance than you do!

I want to learn Web design, where do I start?

I sorta know html but I hear they don’t use it anymore. What programs are used and how can I get started learning? THX!
I took a Web design class last semester and all the prof taught were the basics of HTML and the history of the internet. I got nothing out of the class. thanks.

Without a doubt, this site is the best place for beginners with web design.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp

All you need to start out with webdesign, is windows Notepad. You can download this program http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm it is very similar to Notepad, but has so many more advances in it.
Anyway, the most important thing to do is practice making web pages, layouts, random codes, etc… You can never have too much practice. Also, a lot of people still use HTML, but some things, like background colors, fonts, etc… are now mainly controlled by CSS. You will learn about CSS by using the w3cschools website…. Hope this helps you out!

Learn Basic Web Design

How do I learn to design a simple webpage?

Hello.

My mom sells handmade jewlery out of her house and is not very computer-literate. I know my way around typical programs (surfing the internet, word, excel, powerpoint, etc) but have no experience in web design. I know her business would be benefitted if she had a webpage.

I would like to help her out by paying for and setting up a basic webpage (ie. company name, contact information, a pdf order form, and a few pictures) but I don’t know where to start.

If anyone could suggest a good web tutorial for basic webpage design – or a good book to read- I would be very appreciative. I don’t expect you to explain the whole process though Yahoo! answers!! But, anything you have to offer would help.

Thanks!!

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a “homepage” which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the “homepage” URL is likely to be “http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber… name” and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., “mydomain.com” which allows you to link any registered domain name to “mask” another website. For example, should you type in “domainname.com”, you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber… name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here’s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: “www.pizzanextdoor.com” which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: “http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzamen… and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!

Good luck!

The Complexity of Web Design

The complexity of web design is really easy to see. Once you begin to delve into the many aspects of web design, you can get immersed and feel as though you were drowning. But if you take your time, and start with the basics, then you’re on your way in no time. Web design is a discipline all it’s own. It’s a dance between two partners who want to lead – beauty and function. The trick is to integrate them both for a dance that’s a winner.

You can start by learning how to make a web site. This is done one page at a time, with a computer language known as ‘HTML’. This is how you get the structure and content of your pages. And it’s the place for getting your images as well. HTML isn’t hard to learn, and many sites offer free tutorials for learning it. The way to start your own site, is to create a couple of pages on your computer and then link them together.

The complexity of web design affords you many options for the things you need to do. For maintaining total control over the pages you create, some experts believe that the best way to code them is by hand. This can be achieved with any text editor, like Notepad for instance. But you can find better ones if you look around. If you take advantage of a ‘WYSIWYG’ editor, you won’t even have to know HTML to make your pages.

Once you’ve created your pages in HTML, then you want to save your pages. You save them by adding the text file extension “.html”, and then your browser will be able to read it and know just what to do with it. Then you’ll want to ‘name’ your files. It’s generally recommended that you use all lowercase letters for this, as it can cause problems with some servers. And lots of web design professionals will warn against using ‘blank’ spaces in names. They say you should use hyphens instead.

After you’ve done your creating, the next step in web design is to optimize your site. This means getting yourself some good keywords and phrases to pull your target audience to your site. Optimizing your site with your keywords can be a bit difficult with the amount of competition on the internet. Specificity is the main goal for choosing keywords.

Learning  web design is such a vastly deep pool of study, that we’ve only been able to share the beginning in this short article. But if you have the drive and desire, or have the hunger to learn and actually enjoy web design principles, then you can have fun for a long time, learning as you go. It can be really rewarding to know what goes on behind the scenes of a web site. And if you get good at web design, it can be profitable for you as well.

The complexity of web design should not discourage you from seeking out the information and trying it for yourself. It really is fascinating, and it’s an art-form for sure. There are lots of techniques and plenty of options for you to take to yourself and make part of your style. You can develop your own way of designing with the kind of tools that you like best.
